When I started writing resumes for people, it was my attempt at helping to save their lives.  Literally.

You see, I began this journey with one goal in mind- to help other people. Once upon a time, I had needed help and my life was saved because I got it. It felt important that I pay it forward so I went to a local halfway house and volunteered.

There, I worked with men that were active criminals and very recently addicted to drugs; I believed that if they knew there was someone there for them that they might do better. Eventually I started helping them on job searches and found I was very good at helping them tell their stories and develop their strengths. 

So I began doing it seriously. Over the years I created a curriculum and expanded into several local institutions. Together, we helped hundreds of the hardest-to-employ men and women find jobs and start to rebuild lives they can be proud of. 

For them, rigorous honesty and hard work was a matter of life and death. If they took that approach to the job market they would bolster their chances of success in both sobriety and work.

Along the way I also worked on several dozen resumes for friends, family, and local clients. The principles that were so effective for my addicted friends turned out to be doubly so for my clients that had no such stigmas and hurdles to overcome. Some went on to earn six-figure salaries, or up to 40% increases simply by starting new relationships with employers that began with honesty and hard work.

And today, with Steel Man Resumes, I take pride in knowing that I get to help shape the world into a better place for my daughter to grow up in by helping the people who are going to change it get started on the right path.
